The Tribal Action Plan, a long-term strategic plan to combat substance abuse, was adopted by the Sault Tribe. The TAP Coordinator is responsible for administrating the implementation of the plan, directing the TAP Work Group and directing the TAP Implementation Teams. This position is responsible for coordinating, oversight and guidance on special projects related to TAP and monitoring progress of the implementation to ensure the TAP goals, objectives, tasks, schedules and benchmarks are met. The TAP Coordinator will advise department heads and senior management on TAP initiatives and provide regular reports to Executive Director regarding progress of TAP Implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Administration: Coordinates staff to administer TAP goals and objectives for benefit of tribal members, tribal employees and tribal interests. Includes: planning, development, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
- Issue Resolution: Advises the Executive Director regarding critical issues and related political or legislative concerns related to TAP. Ensures follow-up on services issues and/or questions, as requested.
- Strategic Planning: Coordinates the implementation, modification and evaluation of the overall TAP.
- Grants Management: Writes, acquires, administers and monitors grants related to TAP and in conjunction with various programs. Addresses non-compliance issues with staff to ensure corrective action.
- Project Management: Assemble project timelines and management teams, conduct project meetings, modify as needed the implementation plan and schedule, prioritize and assign tasks, track and report TAP progress and resolve project issues.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Represent the Sault Tribe at local, regional and national events and on committees, as directed.
- All other job related duties as assigned.

Position is considered light duty with lifting of 20 to 50 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of hearing; frequent sitting, use of near/midrange vision, color/field of vision, typing; occasional standing, walking, carrying, stooping, kneeling, reaching, travel, bending, manual handling, use of near vision, depth perception, color and field of vision. Must be able to travel. Working conditions include frequent exposure to air quality and occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, noise and vibration. Potential hazards include frequent client contact, infectious exposure and computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, chemicals, insecticides/pesticides and equipment use.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Guidance / Counseling, Psychology, Public Administration or Business Administration required. Master Degree Preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management and team leadership. Working knowledge with federal grants and contracts preferred.
Certification/License: Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Sault Tribe mission, organization plan, funding sources, laws, regulations and requirements of governmental services divisions required. Standard report formats, office systems, technology required. Knowledge of market sector, research techniques, and demographics relevant to governmental services divisions required. Knowledge of grant administration, documentation and reporting formats preferred. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required. Organizational, strategic planning, project management, crisis management, dispute resolution and dynamic problem-solving skills required. Advanced leadership and team building skills required. Ability to work on multiple projects and maintain tact and diplomacy under duress required. Native American preferred.
