The Custodian/Janitor, under the supervision of the Administrative Assistant, is responsible for performing cleaning and sanitizing in an ambulatory healthcare setting which includes, medical and dental exam rooms, cleaning and disinfecting wash rooms (public and private), vacuuming and mopping floors, stripping and waxing floors, regular trash removal, may assist in facility security and other housekeeping duties as defined by the division.    


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)


  • Cleans and disinfects patient care areas, public areas such as hallways and waiting areas and employee restrooms including such items as walls, vents and windows.                     
  • Maintains the carpet and tile floors of the facility; sweeps, vacuums, mops, strips and waxes floors.   
  • Removes and properly disposes of biohazard medical waste.     
  • Cleans staff offices to including dusting, and cleaning high touch items such as phones and door handles.    






ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)


  • Removes trash from the facility.  
  • All other job related duties as assigned.

Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying of 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of near/midrange vision; frequent standing, walking, manual handling, use of hearing, smell, depth perception, color/field of vision; and occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling and reaching, use of far vision and typing. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, and noise and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent patient/client contact and needles and syringes; and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, electric shock, chemicals, infectious exposure, computer use and equipment. Category I: Personal protection equipment provided by employer includes items such as but not limited to, gloves, gowns, laboratory coats, face shields, masks, eye protection, mouth pieces, resuscitation bags, pockets masks, ventilation devices and other equipment as needed. Immunizations including Hepatitis B vaccination series will be offered to team member at no cost.




Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.


Experience: One year janitorial work experience preferred.


Certification/License: Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting in a healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of the use of floor maintenance and cleaning equipment preferred.  Knowledge of hard tile floor maintenance equipment and chemicals for stripping waxing floors preferred. Knowledge of blood borne pathogens and handling bio hazard medical waste preferred. Ability to use power floor maintenance equipment preferred.  Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.  Must have excellent public relation/customer service skills and be able to exhibit friendly and positive attitude and establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and guests.  Native American preferred.
