Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain and repair residential, commercial, and vacant properties managed by DeMawating Development.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)


  • Repairs and/or replaces or installs plumbing fixtures, pipe and water lines and water heaters, unclogging sewer/drain lines and clearing stoppages in sinks, toilets and sewer lines.
  • Repairs and/or replaces a variety of electrical issues and electrical fixtures.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and equipment upkeep.
  • Complies with safety regulations and procedures and identifies and implements corrective actions regarding maintenance operations.
  • Performs rough and finished carpentry tasks including hanging, finishing, priming and painting drywall.
  • Performs furnace repair and maintenance.
  • Performs grounds work and snow and ice removal from walkways, driveways and roofs.
  • Drives vehicle to remove trash from vacant homes, curbsides, streets and yards.
  • Repairs and/or replaces screen doors, entry doors, and garage doors, windows and screens.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)


  • Performs timely repairs and ensures repairs are made to all DeMawating Development facilities.
  • Cleans vacant homes and offices and performs annual unit inspections.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with tenants, vendors, contractors and team members.
  • Responsible for accurately recording additions and subtractions to inventory, including proper logging and assisting in reconciling inventory quarterly and annually.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Position lifts objects over 100 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying of 50 or more pounds. Physical factors include constant climbing, stooping, kneeling and reaching; frequent standing, walking, carrying heavy items, manual handling, use of hearing, smelling, near and far vision, depth perception, color and field of vision, driving, sitting and bending; and occasional lifting, pushing and pulling of heavy items, crawling, use of midrange vision and typing. Working conditions include frequent exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, noise and vibration and occasional wet/humidity and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent exposure to electric shock, patient and/or client contact and equipment and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high exposure places, chemicals, insecticides/pesticides and computer use. Protective clothing/equipment needed to perform the job includes steel toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, dusk masks, hard hats and eye protection as needed.




Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. 


Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in Residential Property Management Maintenance field required, 3 years preferred.


Certification/License: Trade or TechnicalSchool certificate in construction or Mechanical Technology preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.  Must comply with annual drivers license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.  Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing.  Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge and be able to use power tools and equipment of the trade. Must have knowledge and be able to repair dry wall and paint. Must have knowledge and be able to perform electrical, plumbing and furnace repairs. Must have knowledge of snowplow equipment; plow, blower and shovel, and be able to perform snowplowing. Must have knowledge and be able to perform lawn care and lawn equipment maintenance. Must have knowledge of and be able to use tractor, riding and push lawnmowers, weed whippers, pruning and trimming tools, and must be able to perform maintenance on such equipment. Must have knowledge of OSHA and Tribal safety standards. Must be able to carry pager on a rotating shift for emergency calls. Must be able to haul and back up utility trailers and large equipment. Carpentry, including rough and finish work skills required. Customer service skills required. Native American preferred.
