The Pharmacy Technician II, under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist or Pharmacist Supervisor, is responsible for providing assistance to the Pharmacists;  answering telephone calls, greeting patients, distributing medications and recording signatures and preparing prescriptions and other related duties.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

 

  • Answers telephone, takes and prioritizes messages, and refers to pharmacist when needed.
  • Greets patients, distributes medications and refers to pharmacist when needed.
  • Locates correct medications, counts, mixes suspensions, labels, etc.                                                      
  • Maintains inventory by expiration date, performs quarterly expiration date verifications of all inventories and maintains associated records.
  • Orders pharmaceuticals based upon reorder points.                                            
  • Checks incoming shipments against invoices and determine shortages and consults with wholesaler as needed to clarify shortages, overcharges etc.                                                                                   
  • Files all required paperwork relative to ordering and receiving of pharmaceuticals.                               
  • Keeps all work areas clean and properly stocked.                                                                                   
  • Enters patient's 3rd party data into RPMS for reimbursement.                                                               
  • Monitors Point of Sale adjudication screen to assure proper payment for prescriptions.
  • Processes 3rd party rejections.                                                                 
  • Prepares and issues supplies to other Health Division department and maintains associated records.   
  • Prepares daily and monthly reports from RPMS, distributes and files.  
  • Performs quality control measures of pharmacy robotics system.
  • Performs daily and weekly maintenance of pharmacy robotics system.                                                 
  • Performs quality control measures of pharmacy refrigerators and maintains associated records.                       

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

 

  • Complies with Health Division and Pharmacy Department goals and objectives.                                  
  • Complies with Health Division and Pharmacy Department policies and procedures.                
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations, Privacy Act standards, Health Division confidentiality policies and information security policies or procedures.
  • All other job related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors/service providers.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Position light with lifting of 20 pounds and frequent lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant standing; use of hearing, near/midrange vision, depth perception, color/field of vision and typing; frequent walking, carrying/lifting, reaching; occasional sitting, pushing/pulling, stooping, use of far vision, bending and occasional travel. Working conditions include occasional exposure to noise. Potential hazards include constant patient contact, computer use, equipment; frequent exposure to chemicals, infectious exposure, needles/syringes; occasional moving mechanical parts, electric shock and equipment.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

 

Experience:  Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.

 

Certification/License: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification required. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check.  Must maintain good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medical terminology required. Basic math skills required.  Must be able to type 30 words per minute. Must be able to maintain accuracy.  Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisory personnel, coworkers and the general public. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and use tact and discretion when dealing with patients. Must have excellent organization skills; organizing work, prioritizing tasks and managing time. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
