POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Maintenance Technician, under the direction of Maintenance Manager I or Maintenance Manager II, is responsible for diagnostics, troubleshooting, and making repairs to all commercial equipment and preparing material lists and cost estimates for replacement parts and equipment. The position is responsible for maintaining inventory control of all tools, equipment, and parts, and for cost-effective operations. The position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining all mechanical systems throughout the building using an automated computer program. The position is responsible for assuring safety standards are to be followed to meet the needs of the operation.      

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

 

  • Performs preventative maintenance of various types of company equipment.
  • Makes general repairs and maintenance to company equipment.
  • Assists subcontractors as necessary.
  • Performs carpentry.
  • Performs painting.
  • Makes minor electrical repairs.
  • Performs plumbing.
  • Performs snow and ice removal.
  • Maintains logs on all forms of fire and safety and mechanical equipment, inspections, tests and services performed.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • All other job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers, and outside vendors/service providers.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Position medium with the lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds.  Physical factors include constant standing, walking, manual handling; frequent carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, use of hearing/smell, color/field of vision, near/midrange/far vision, use of depth perception, and occasional typing and driving. Working conditions include frequent exposure to weather, heat/cold, humidity, noise, vibration, and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals, infectious exposure, and occasional computer and equipment use. Protective equipment/clothing needed to perform the job includes hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel toe shoes as well as other safety equipment provided by the company.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Trade or Technical School Certificate preferred.

 

Experience:    Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the construction or building maintenance field required.

 

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have knowledge and ability to use tools necessary in mechanical repair in the building maintenance field required. Must be able to work extended hours when needed.  Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Computer skills and basic office product knowledge such as word processing and spreadsheet software preferred. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly. Native American preferred.
