The A/V Specialist, under the direction of the Communications Manager, is responsible for management, design, configuration, monitoring and support of all A/V systems utilized across tribal government, gaming & hospitality, health and enterprises (excluding gaming events and concerts).  This includes direct administration and support of all A/V equipment and displays used for A/V and communication purposes. Will provide onsite support for all essential A/V functions like tribal board of director meetings or community presentations.  Creates and maintains simple and clear user documentation and training to all employees on A/V system use. Works closely with the IT team to create and maintain a secure and dependable A/V infrastructure supporting all of the operational needs of the tribe and its enterprises. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

A/V System Administration & Support:

  • Manage and maintain the A/V infrastructure across all sites, ensuring optimal functionality for various uses (public meetings, presentations, marketing displays).
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot A/V equipment (projectors, screens, sound systems, video conferencing tools) for efficient operation.
  • Maintains an inventory of backup A/V equipment for timely service
  • Provide technical support to users experiencing issues with A/V equipment, presentation tools, and content management systems.
  • Collaborate with Cabling Technicians to ensure proper cabling infrastructure supports A/V needs across all locations.
  • Maintain a current inventory of A/V equipment and manage equipment life cycles, recommending replacements and upgrades as needed.

Meeting & Presentation Support:

  • Provide on-site technical support for board meetings, business presentations, and interoffice meetings, ensuring seamless audio-visual functionality.
  • Flexible work schedule is required to support board meetings, events and presentations that require on-site support during evenings and weekends.
  • Work with users to understand presentation needs and set up A/V equipment for optimal presentation impact.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time during meetings and presentations to minimize disruption.

 Content Management & Digital Signage:

  • Manage content management systems (CMS) for displaying marketing materials and other digital content on screens across multiple sites.
  • Assist with content creation (e.g., scheduling, uploading visuals) or collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure proper content delivery through A/V channels.
  • Maintain and update digital signage displays with relevant and engaging content.

Collaboration & Project Management:

  • Work closely with the Communications team to ensure seamless integration of A/V systems with the broader communication infrastructure.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of new A/V solutions and upgrades, considering user needs and technological advancements.
  • Manage small projects related to A/V system installations, content management system implementations, and equipment upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of A/V systems configurations, equipment inventory, and user guides for various A/V functionalities.

Training & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Conduct training sessions for users on basic A/V equipment operation and content management system usage.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with other IT support staff regarding A/V technology and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Stay updated on evolving A/V technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for improvement in the organization's A/V solutions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to established IT policies and procedures for equipment security, network connectivity, and user access control.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning for A/V systems, ensuring continuity of operations in the event of disruptions.
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Position heavy with dual lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision, typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals and equipment.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Audio Visual concentration or similar degree required or three years of experience in an IT or Audio/Visual field may be considered in lieu of education.

 

Experience: No additional experience required.

 

Certification/License: Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

Knowledge:

  • A/V Technologies: In-depth knowledge of A/V equipment (projectors, screens, sound systems, video conferencing tools) and their functionalities.
  • Content Management Systems (CMS): Understanding of CMS principles and experience with operating a specific CMS platform used by your organization (if applicable).
  • Digital Signage: Familiarity with digital signage concepts and best practices for content display.
  • Network Fundamentals: Basic understanding of network connectivity and its role in supporting A/V systems.
  • Audio & Video Standards: Awareness of common audio and video standards (e.g., HDMI, VGA) and their impact on system compatibility.
  • Safety Regulations: Knowledge of safety regulations regarding A/V equipment installation and operation.

Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining A/V equipment.
  • Presentation Support Skills: Ability to set up A/V equipment for presentations, ensuring optimal audio-visual output and user experience.
  • Content Management Skills: Skills for managing and updating content within a CMS (if applicable), understanding content scheduling and uploading procedures.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with users, the Communications team (Cabling Technicians, Voice Specialist, Communications Administrator), and other IT staff.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve A/V equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot technical issues during presentations.
  • Project Management: Skills for managing small projects related to A/V installations, CMS implementations, and equipment upgrades.
  • Training & Documentation: Ability to develop user guides and conduct training sessions on A/V equipment operation and CMS usage (if applicable).

 

Abilities:

  • Technical Aptitude: Strong aptitude for understanding A/V technology, troubleshooting issues, and learning new equipment.
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills to provide technical support to users experiencing A/V problems.
